Did you know that you can work in the medical field without becoming a nurse or doctor?  If you are thinking about a career in the medical field and want to get on the job quickly, you may want to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Whether you are planning to go to nursing school or just want to begin your career in healthcare, becoming a CNA can be a terrific place to start.

Right now, there are 60,000 plus vacancies for CNAs in long term care and the projected need is expected to increase by 35% in just a few years time. 

YOUR CNA CLASSES

Before you can work as medical professional in a CNA position, it is be necessary that you enroll in CNA classes.  These classes will provide you with the education, information and clinical training you need to work professionally as a certified nursing assistant.  

YOUR STATE EXAM 

You will need to take your state’s exam for certification upon completion of your training classes.

In order to be eligible to earn state licensing and certification, you will need to attend training classes that have been approved in your state.  

CNA Classes can last from 2 to 8 weeks depending on how many hours are spent in class each day.  Some intensive classes are as short as one week in length. If your course is less than 4 weeks, be prepared to do your homework and practice your clinical skills at home. 

Some CNA courses will provide you with BOTH classroom and clinical training.  While others focus on the clinical skills in class and you must do your classroom work on your own time. 

Your state exam will consist of two sections:
1) Your written exam. 
2) Your clinical skills.  

You must pass both sections to earn your state license.

Becoming a CNA is a great way to get on the job quickly, help others and become a respected professional in the medical field.


CNA Salary Details

Your salary can range depending upon the shift the you are working.  For example, the 11pm to 7am shifts generally pay the most.  Your salary can also vary by experience, whether you are working full or part time and by where you are working.  Nursing assistants generally earn $24,000 to $33,000 per year for full time work depending upon your state and your level of experience.

Higher salaries go with experience and additional training such as becoming a Med Tech.

Many hospitals are willing to offer tuition reimbursement programs if you are attending nursing school.  While in their employ at the hospital as a CNA, you will make important contacts, learn additional medical terminology and more skills.
